Forest Service
Project:National Forest Atlases
The USDA Forest Service turned to L+W to produce detailed topographic maps of popular National Forests. The maps were published in several 50–100 page atlases focusing on outdoor recreation, including hiking, biking and off road vehicle use. Collaborating with both the local forest and their respective regional offices, L+W manipulated Forest Service GIS data to create high quality map pages. L+W also developed an easy-to-use template in ESRI ArcMap that automatically creates map pages and then stylizes the data appropriately. The map pages are then exported to Adobe Illustrator format for final design work. In 2011 L+W, along with the Forest Service's Southwest Region office in Vallejo, won first place for "Map Series or Atlas – Press Copy" from Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), the leader in GIS software.
