Alameda County Transportation Commission
Project:2007 & 2011 Countywide Bicycle & Pedestrian Plans – GIS & Mapping
L+W works with many regional agencies on elements of their general plans, from individual maps to larger plan sections. In Alameda County, across the bay from San Francisco, L+W worked as GIS and mapping consultants in collaboration with a team of Alameda County Transportation Commission (ACTC) staff, planners, and engineers to update the 2007 and 2011 Alameda Countywide Bicycle and Pedestrian Plans. These plans promote bicycling safety and create a more walkable community, while also making walking and biking an integral part of the transportation system. These plans also guide financial resource allocation among local jurisdictions, while acting as a model to guide construction of individual jurisdiction plans. L+W worked to meet the needs of the client while collaborating with many other subcontractors. The projects required a combination of GIS (including data creation, collecting existing data, and GIS analysis) and user-friendly map and report generation. L+W also assisted in creating effective large-scale maps and map tools for the many public meetings where these plans were presented.
